The Community Corrections PreTrial program provides the local courts with an alternative to adult incarceration when an individual meets program requirements. PreTrial Officers monitor and enforce compliance with conditions of release imposed by a court prior to trial.
An offender referred to PreTrial must contact this agency no later than the next business day after release from court or confinement.
Investigation and Assessment
Before a judge sets bond or determines whether a defendant should be detained, a PreTrial Officer investigates the individual. They verify the defendant’s residence, employment history, financial resources, and criminal record. Using standardized risk assessment tools, such as the Public Safety Assessment, they evaluate two main factors:
- The likelihood that the defendant will appear in court.
- The risk the defendant poses to public safety, or to specific individuals, if released.
Conditions of Supervision
PreTrial supervision may include:
- Drug and alcohol screens or testing
- Support groups and/or counseling
- Employment requirements
- Refrain from excessive or any use of alcohol
- Refrain from illegal drugs
- No-contact restrictions
- Other limitations ordered by the court

- Proof of residence (utility bill, official mail, or rent receipt with your name and address)
- All documentation received from the court

Frequently Asked PreTrial Questions
Do I have to agree to participate?
No, but the court will decide whether PreTrial is a condition of your release. If it is, you must comply to remain on bond.
What happens if I don’t comply?
The PreTrial Officer notifies the court. The judge can revoke your bond and return you to jail.
What if I miss an appointment?
Missed appointments are a violation. Call your PreTrial Officer in advance if circumstances are beyond your control.
Will the judge know about my conduct?
Yes. Reports are submitted at hearings, trials, and sentencing. The judge may use PreTrial reports to determine bond and sentencing.
What if I move or change employers?
Notify your PreTrial Officer immediately. Also notify the Clerk of the Court and your attorney.
Why do I have to be drug or alcohol tested?
The court may make testing a condition of your release. Failing to comply may result in bond revocation.
When is PreTrial supervision complete?
Once a final disposition is made on your case and the judge confirms it is complete.
Can I leave the state?
You must have prior court approval for any out-of-state travel.
Tips for Successful Participation
- Report for all appointments at PreTrial and/or treatment programs.
- Report any problems to your PreTrial Officer.
- Keep records of all treatment appointments (date and who you saw).
- Report any changes in address, employment, or phone number to PreTrial and your attorney.
- Obtain an attorney as soon as possible.
- Report to court for all court dates.
- Refrain from conduct that may result in your arrest.
